lashed out at reveller
-
A nightclub
doorman "lost it" when he lashed out and attacked a
drunken reveller who tried to get back into the premises
after being thrown out.
Paul
Anderson punched and threw Scott Roberts to the ground
before kicking him after refusing him entry to Time and
Tide in Hartlepool.
Anderson, 24, then punched a friend of Mr Roberts' who
had left the club to try to help him.
The doorman had earlier ejected Mr Roberts from the club
in Avenue Road, Hartlepool, after a glass bottle fell
from a landing.
Teesside Crown Court heard Mr Roberts returned around an
hour later and tried to get back in to meet friends, but
was blocked by Anderson who asked "are you coming back
for more?"
Sue Jacobs, prosecuting, said: "Other door staff told
the defendant to leave it, but he then pushed his way
through and punched Mr Roberts to the right side of the
face.
"A friend went out to give assistance and CCTV footage
shows the second victim being assaulted by the
defendant."
Further CCTV footage taken from the club afterwards was
said to show Anderson mimicking what had happened during
the attack to others and laughing.
Police called to the incident on April 26 found him
hiding in some toilets and he was arrested.
Robin Denny, mitigating, said Anderson was provoked when
Mr Roberts returned drunk and twice refused his calls to
go away.
Mr Denny said: "The defendant accepts he went far too
far. Effectively he lost it and he is full of remorse
and regret.
"It was the first time in many years of doing that
difficult and challenging work anything like that has
happened."
He added Anderson, of Rothbury Avenue, Horden, has since
given up working as a doorman.
Anderson admitted affray and will be electronically
tagged between 8pm and 7am for three months as part of a
12-month community order.
Judge George Moorhouse said: "I accept you were
provoked, but that did not justify you punching and
kicking him."
