Man swung bottle at guard's head

A heavily intoxicated man who tried to hit a nightclub security guard with a bottle ended up in the care of ambulance officers when he mistakenly hit himself instead.

Joseph Tamihanacity Cox pleaded guilty at the Mackay Magistrate’s Court yesterday to one charge of being drunk or disorderly.

Prosecutor Sergeant Cindy Searle said Cox was at Mackay’s Platinum nightclub in the early hours of November 1.

About 2.33am he tried to leave the premises with two bottles of pre-mixed spirits but was told by security he could not take the alcohol.

He continued to argue before one of the guards attempted to remove the bottles from his hands.

“He tried to hit one of the staff in the head with a bottle but instead hit himself in the head,” Sgt Searle said.

Cox was fined $300 but a conviction was not recorded.
