- Two teens
allegedly assault Mutt & Jeff's employees
- A
17-year-old Lorain boy attacked two employees of Mutt &
Jeff’s with a knife while they were kicking him and an
18-year-old Lorain man out of the bar early Saturday
morning, according to a Lorain police report.
A bouncer told police he saw the intoxicated 17-year-old
heading toward the exit with a shot glass in his hand
and told him to put down the glass and leave the bar.
After being told to leave, the juvenile was joined by
Steven Byrge, 18, and both started arguing with the
bouncer, according to the report.
The bouncer said he tried to physically remove them and
was assisted by another employee when the juvenile
pulled out a 2-inch folding knife and began swinging it
wildly at the two employees. The bouncer had an
inch-long cut on his chin, and the other employee
received a 3- to 4-inch cut on his neck and was kicked
in the face by Byrge, the report stated.
The two suspects fled the bar in a red Pontiac and
police saw it speeding north on Oberlin Avenue with no
lights on, according to the report. The car turned left
on West 35th Street, where it stopped on a tree lawn on
the 1200 block.
The 17-year-old climbed out of the driver’s side window
and ran, attempting to hide on a porch on West 34th
Street. He refused to come off the porch or show his
hands and was shot with a Taser and handcuffed after a
struggle, the report stated.
Byrge was charged with assault and taken to Lorain City
Jail. The boy had a blood alcohol reading of 0.130 and a
suspended driver’s license. He was charged with
delinquency by means of felonious assault, resisting
arrest, obstructing official business, driving while
under the influence and driving under suspension. He was
taken to the Lorain County Detention Home.
