Evansville police she was robbed by man who gave her a ride
Evansville police are looking for the person who a woman said
punched her in the face and robbed her after giving her a ride
home early Wednesday.
According to a police department incident report, police arrived
in the 100 block of East Iowa Street about 1:40 a.m., just a few
minutes after the alleged robbery occurred, and spoke to the
The victim said she left work at the Busy Body Lounge about 1
a.m. and found that the wires to her car battery were cut, the
report said. She told a bouncer that she was about to walk home
— about a 23-minute walk — but the bouncer suggested that she
hitch a ride with a black male customer.
So the victim rode with the suspect in his gray Jeep Grand
Cherokee, the report said, and he stopped at Iowa Street and
Heildelbach Avenue, which is at the corner of her block. That’s
when the suspect grabbed her purse and, after a brief struggle,
punched her in the face, the report said.
The suspect eventually took about $30 and her “checkbook-sized
wallet,” the victim told police. Police said they saw a
contusion on her left cheek and a cut on her lower lip.
