Bouncer shot outside nightclub
arrested after doorman shot in leg
nightclub bouncer is recovering in hospital after being
shot in the leg during an argument in downtown
Vancouver police say the 39-year-old bouncer was just
doing his job in front of the Barcelona Lounge, 1180
Street, around 1 a.m. Sunday morning when an altercation broke
out with a man on the street.
Suddenly and without warning, the man pulled out a handgun and
opened fire on the doorman.
The bouncer was hit in the leg, and a number of shots hit the
Witnesses and police officers gave chase to the suspect as he
tried to run from the scene
and managed to take him into custody.
The bouncer is expected to recovery fully from his injuries.
But it could have been a lot worse, according to VPD
spokesperson Const. Lindsey Houghton.
“We were fortunate that no one else was seriously injured
tonight,” Houghton said in a media release. “No one goes to work
expecting to be shot and we wish the victim a speedy recovery.”
Police say there were “hundreds of people in the immediate area”
when the shots were fired.
Some witnesses say they heard five or six shots go off.
The nightclub had to be closed for the night and boarded up.
A 32-year-old man from Alberta, who is known to police, could be
facing numerous weapons and assault-related charges.
