Street, around 1 a.m. Sunday morning when an altercation broke out with a man on the street.

Suddenly and without warning, the man pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the doorman.

The bouncer was hit in the leg, and a number of shots hit the nightclub’s door.
Witnesses and police officers gave chase to the suspect as he tried to run from the scene
and managed to take him into custody.

The bouncer is expected to recovery fully from his injuries.

But it could have been a lot worse, according to VPD spokesperson Const. Lindsey Houghton.

“We were fortunate that no one else was seriously injured tonight,” Houghton said in a media release. “No one goes to work expecting to be shot and we wish the victim a speedy recovery.”

Police say there were “hundreds of people in the immediate area” when the shots were fired.

Some witnesses say they heard five or six shots go off.

The nightclub had to be closed for the night and boarded up.

A 32-year-old man from Alberta, who is known to police, could be facing numerous weapons and assault-related charges.
