bouncer shot in back during fight
A bouncer at
a Beaufort nightclub was shot early Sunday morning during a
fight, police said.
Beaufort
police arrived at Club Insomnia, 2247 Boundary St. across
from the Huddle House, just before 2 a.m. to find an
employee had been shot in the back, said Police Chief Matt
Clancy.
The bouncer
was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with
non-life-threatening injuries, Clancy said.
Witnesses
told police the employee was trying to escort patrons out of
the club when a fight broke out. During the fight, a man
pulled out a gun and fired. A roundstruck the employee,
Clancy said.
"Officers
responded to a chaotic scene," Clancy said. "Patrons were
running out -- outside, everyone scattered. The subject then
went into the parking lot and fired several more rounds."
No other
injuries were reported, but cars and other property in the
club's parking lot were damaged.
The shooter
has not yet been identified, Clancy said.
Police are
searching for a black male in his early 20s, wearing a red
shirt or jacket and a red baseball hat with the letter "C"
on it.
Those with
information about the shooting are asked to call
Investigator Erdel at 843-322-7958, the police tip line at
