North Mackay, Australia
Bouncer accused of manslaughter

Police have arrested and charged a man with manslaughter following the death of Joel Namoa, who died after an altercation at the Andergrove Tavern.

Peter John Carr, 34, of North Mackay, was arrested this morning at 8.15 and later appeared in court to face one charge of manslaughter.

Police laid the charge after receiving Mr Namoa’s autopsy results on Friday.

Detective Senior Constable Kerry Holl, who held a press conference at noon, said he could not go into detail about the autopsy results.

“I’m not prepared to release those findings at the moment but it has indicated there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the charge,” he said.

“(But) the findings indicated Mr Namoa did not die of natural causes and as a result this gentleman (Carr) has been charged.”

Carr appeared in the Mackay Magistrates Court this morning. No plea was entered.

Carr was released on bail, subject to a number of conditions. He is due to reappear in court for a hearing mention in 10 weeks time.
