Clubber 'clobbers' cop

A man has been charged with punching a uniformed policeman in the face at a popular South Melbourne nightclub.

The policeman was on patrol in The Motel nightclub about 1.15am on April 5 when security staff sought assistance to deal with a member of the crowd.

As police ejected the man from the club he allegedly punched one of the officers in the face, leaving him with facial injuries.

Police raided a Greensborough home in Corowa Crescent about 6am today and charged a 27-year-old man with seriously assaulting police, intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury.

He was bailed and will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on June 7.
